LOST AND DAMAGED
If an item borrowed by a patron is accidently lost or damaged, patron will be charged for its replacement cost which consists of the :

Current price of the item
--
plus RM 30.00 of processing fee
--
plus any outstanding fines
If an interlibrary loan material from another library is lost/damaged, the patron will be billed by the lending library according to that library's policies. Patrons should report lost materials immediately, so that their library privileges are not suspended.
REFUNDS
A partial refund may be issued at the discretion of the University Librarian if the declared item is found and returned to the Library. The amount depends on the amount of fines which have accrued.

PERSONS ENTITLED FOR THE LIBRARY

1.0
MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
1.1
All members of the university, students and staff, and any other persons approved by the University Librarian are entitled to borrow books and other library materials, provided that they have registered at the circulation counter in the library.
1.2
No person may be admitted to membership of the library until they have signed a declaration that they agree to abide to the rules and regulations determined by the University Librarian.

HOW TO BE A LIBRARY MEMBER?
Feel free to visit the library Circulation Counter and fill up library membership form.
2.1
Application processing time
The membership application processing time will take maximum up to 3 working days and notification to collect card will be disseminated via email or posted on the library notice board (next to the Circulation Counter)

LIBRARY CARD
3.1
How to get library card and is it charge?
Library card will be given upon approval of membership application and is free for the first card issuance
3.2
How the library card looks like?
On the library card will display MUST logo and address, library patron barcode and identification number (P-patron, followed four digit numbers)
3.3
What is the function of the library card?
Library card acts as unique identification and so it is personal. Holding library card gives privilige such as for any physical transaction needs. Patron must present personal library card for all check out items and for using certain library facilities
3.4
In short, library cards allows user :
3.4.1
to borrow library collection (readings and audio videos materials)
3.4.2
to participate in library services such as ILL (inter library loan) program, discussion rooms
Cardholder is responsible for all items checked out under his or her account, and any financial obligation incurred due to overdue fines and damaged or lost items
3.5
Lost the library card?
Please inform the loss to the librarian on duty by phone, in person or email immediately. This to avoid other patrons using your library card for borrowing materials or using library’s facilities. Consequently, to avoid the possibilities the card owner to liable any financial charges incurred due to late return, damage or loss of checked out materials
Librarian will delete and create a new membership number. No form needs to be filled up, but you must sign the existing membership form upon receiving of new library card. For every replacement card will be charged RM10.00

Change of address, contact numbers and email should be reported immediately

4.0
HOURS OF OPENING
4.1
The hours of opening of the University Library shall be posted at the library entrance and on the library website.
4.2
Except on public and university holidays the library shall be open during the academic semesters from at least 8.45 am to 6.30 pm Monday to Friday. As for Saturday, MUST Library is opened from 8.45 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. unless the University otherwise determines.
4.3
Sundays is closed, unless the University otherwise determines.

5.0
CONDUCT OF READERS IN THE LIBRARY
5.1
Smoking, eating and drinking are forbidden in the library. A reader found with food or drink in the library will be responsible for its immediate removal.
5.2
Handphones, pagers, and other devices likely to cause disturbance must be switched off or set to silent mode before entering the library. Personal notebooks/laptops, and calculators may be used in the library.
5.3
Readers must not change the arrangement of furniture, fittings or equipments or misuse them in any way.
5.4
Moving of chairs between the public area and Multimedia / IT area is strictly disallowed.
5.5
Talking is forbidden in formal reading areas and in book stacks, except in such areas as the University Librarian may indicate for quiet conversation (discussion room). Talking is extremely prohibited in the Reference Area, except for the purpose of seeking assistance in the consultation of the catalogs or the use of the collections.
5.6
Readers may not reserve reading places or computers.
5.7
Readers may not enter or leave any part of the library except by the main entrance and exit except in the event of a fire alarm. Readers may enter the staff areas unless by invitation or when accompanied by the library staff. Library materials must not be marked, defaced or damaged in any way.
5.8
All readers must vacate the library at least 5 MINUTES before library closes.

6.0
BORROWING OF LIBRARY MATERIALS
6.1
All library materials may be borrowed with the exception of the followings :-
6.1.1 Books, serials and other library material designated for REFERENCE ONLY
6.1.2 Current parts of serials or journals
6.2
Readers may not borrow in anyone's name, nor use anyone's ID but their own.
6.3
Materials must not be removed from the library unless loan records are completed for them.
6.4
A reader may not transfer a loan to another reader. The reader in whose name the loan record is held shall be regarded as the borrower and shall be responsible for the return of the loan, undamaged.
6.5
Readers leaving the library premise, if required to do so by the University Librarian or any of the library staff, present the library materials and folders, bags and similar items in their possession for inspection.
